This is my Car Show blog and music is ‘part and parcel’ to the nostalgia experience. As I walked from the parking lot to Bud & Anna’s car show, the Hillbilly Rock Starz Band (this link does play music) was setting up in Hodgkins Park and they told me they played country music. Thinking I’d hear this at the show I went on to shoot the cars. Berwyn Route 66 Car Show 9-8-2012 post

Last year I took my son to Cigars & Stripes in Berwyn for some famous smoked hot wings but Ron told me because of the just ended Route 66 Car Show, he only had one order left, which Paul and I had to share. Undaunted, I came back for this year’s car show and more terrific hot wings (I did have to tone down the “Hottest F#$kin’ Sauce‘). Estimates were as high as 600 cars and the biggest Route 66 show ever; I couldn’t see all the cars. Two of the fellows I’ve met at these shows won awards today: Tom took the Raging Ragtop prize for his Coronado Red 61 Pontiac Bonneville and Alan the Mighty Mustang honors for his orange ’69 Shelby Cobra (I didn’t get a picture until hours later when I saw ‘them’ at Hodgkins).

Yet another trip in the ‘time machine’ of old cars and oldies music (provided by Flashback ’50s DJ Tony), and here is some of the music he played for this car show. I estimate at least as many as the 130 cars as Fil tallied last week. The sun set way too soon, but I did get some hand-held night shots which I like.

I spent more time blogging than shooting at Bensenville and recorded tow car stories: Glenn’s 1933 Chevrolet Street Rod and Ray’s 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. The band in the park was Disturbia and some of the music they covered is here. I very much like shooting at night with the Bensenville Park in the background.

Downers Grove Cruise Night 8-31-2012 Season finale post

What a great event for the season finale! Sad the 2012 season had to end. My main take away is having finally met the Bob, owner of the third blue and white 1955 Buick Century with identical paint schemes to John’s two door ’55 Special and Frank’s ’55 Century Wagon. Here are the ‘three (1955 Buick) amigos’.

I had to post my ‘Moon over Miami Wood Dale’ gallery. One hundred thirty cars participated. I won’t get to posting the music section of songs played by Flashback’50s DJ Tony for a day or so but  Flashback’50s DJ Tony provided the entertainment by ‘spinning’ CDs of great oldies. A few of them are here.

Great news! Georgetown Square will host Cruise Nights again on the first two Thursdays in September 2012!

This was my first visit to the Bensenville Cruise night and it was a fine event. There was a band, In Session, and many, many people. Scroll down or click here for my music section of some of their covers. Quite a few familiar cars/faces were there from Cruise Nights at Forest Park, Lombard and Westchester. The trees in the park were lighted and that made for some interesting night shots (here) and my ‘teaser’ gallery is below too at this link.

Good news! Bensenville is going to continue Cruise Nights through the end of September.

Jim had his ’39 Graham, Bob had his ’56 Chevy Bel Aire, Joe brought his ’40 Ford Street Rod, Alan had his Merc Marauder (missed him with the camera tonight) and Raleigh brought his ’54 Corvette.

What a hot Cruise Night for the Forest Park 2012 season finale event. Cars were packed in everywhere and some even double parked! The ‘regulars’ for this event include many domestic makes and three Lotus Esprit’s but there were three ‘new’ Lotus machines as well. Scroll down or jump to my ‘teaser’ photo gallery.

I had a great time in Westchester and met up with lots of friends (three of whose cars are shown below) and Rich, dark blue ’58 Plymouth Savoy , and Joe, alpine turquoise ’65 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. I got more shots of both cars and should be able to expand my ‘coverage’ (when I get some time). The band Blak Swan entertained us and here are YouTube videos of some of their covers.
