Focus on Cars
I like to focus on cars I can photograph in depth and write a 'car story' about the owner's experiences with the vehicle. Now there are over 55 stories of these cars; and here is a shortcut link.Post archives

Riverside Cruise 8-08-2013
The last Riverside Cruise Night of the 2012 season was another good one, although not totally full. Showcase Classics provided the music (listen to some of the songs here).
Hudson for $ 20,000
I just saw a Pawn Stars episode on TV, originally aired 11/13/2012, where Rick Harrison purchased a white/cream colored Hudson Commodore four-door sedan (like this), but with an outside sun visor) for $ 20,000. The car was in great shape almost all original. This was similar to the gorgeous 1950 Hudson Commodore convertible I shot at the 2012 Riverside season finale car show on September 30, 2012.
Sadly, we’ve lost some friends.
Jim Demars (June 21, 1936- January 24, 2014)
Jim purchased his 1939 Ford Cab Over truck in 2007 and got it running & painted a brazen Chrysler Viper Red in 2013. The motor is a 1989 Corvette LS1 V-8 and the transmission is a 4L60E with overdrive. Jim modified the bed to his specifications (more here). This is his obituary.
I’d met Jim’s daughter Dawn and her husband in 2012; they own a red turbocharged 1962 Corvair Spyder convertible. I just met Jim during the 2013 season at Westchester (June I think) and he seemed to be at every show – Westchester, Downers Grove, Bensenville … having a terrific time even though at times he felt ill.
Lombard Cruise 8-03-2013
The band was a Beatles tribute group, American English, and the show was packed with cars and the concert audience. Here are the Beatles performing some of the songs covered at this event. On January 28, 2014 I posted my photo gallery for this event here.
Oldsmobiles from the 50s are very special to me because the first family car I can recall was my mother’s 1958 Olds Ninety Eight. I’ve created pages for Rick’s ’56 Olds Holiday 88, Geno’s ’56 Olds Ninety Eight and Jim’s ’57 Olds Starfire. At this show I bookended mom’s car by meeting Al and his red four door 1959 Oldsmobile 98. His dad had bought it in 1977 and it was kept many years in a barn in Iowa. The interior and exterior are original!

Blog status update 01-23-2014
Today is January 23, 2014. I’ve created 204 posts on this list, which will grow over time as I keep working , mostly my discussions of the car shows I attended though there are often two posts per show, an initial one after the event and a final one after I post my full photo gallery (Downers Grove from 8-02-2013 was just uploaded yesterday the 22nd). I have 22 21 shows from the 2013 season yet to edit. The final result will not include all the photos I took. Plenty of time’ See which ones they are by reading on …

Downers Grove 8-02-2013
Rain threatened and that must’ve scared cars away and the scheduled piano player didn’t make it either. I’ll ‘borrow’ some oldies music from another show here.
Westchester Cruise 7-29-2013
It was an absolute madhouse at Westchester with perfect weather and a great rock ‘n roll band, the Stingrays (click here for some of their music I recorded). Show cars were parked all the way down in the Dominick’s lot and a ’58 Edsel was in the Burger King lot.

The weather was threatening but I saw plenty of my friends. On Park it was ‘pony time’ and there must’ve been a dozen Mustangs surrounding three Pontiacs. The band was the Saracens and they played 60s music; they formed their rock band in the 1960s and have gotten back together! Here are some of their tunes from Saturday.
Two ‘new’ cars caught my eye at this event. One was a 1955 Porsche 550A Spyder streetable race car that he bought in 2004 after he retired from racing Porsche’s. He bought the car from someone in Seattle and had it shipped here. It has no top, radio or side windows, only the essentials to race. Tom raced at tracks like Sebring and Elkhart Lake from 1983 to 2004 with a professional license for the enjoyment. This is the model of car that famous 1950s actor James Dean was driving when an accident took his life on 2-08-1955.
