New ‘king of the hill’

1962 Catalina

1962 Catalina

Cars are special in our culture. Some people I’ve met keep their cars for a long time and I really like to recognize that longevity and especially original owner old cars. Rich bought this Belmar Red Pontiac Catalina new in 1962, which makes it the longest original owner car I’ve found; taking over the top spot from Charlie and his Palomar Red 1964 Chevrolet Corvair whom I saw last Friday. I shot this car but it wasn’t until after dark I saw Rich and found out this was his original owner car; I want more photos.

Originally the Catalina had a 389 cu in motor but Rich added a 460 with 2 4bbl carburetors.

I’d first met Rich at Lombard last year and he’s an active member in the Pontiac club. I did this page about his Aquamarine 1962 Catalina. He also has a red Catalina convertible.

Wood Dale 8-15-2013 Post

Flashback 50s DJ Tony played some great oldies and he brought his friend, Mike “Elvis” Cimeron. Here are the songs Mike performed for the show.

1929 Pirsch

1929 Pirsch

Featured vehicles were Fire, Police and Emergency. I zeroed in on this 1929 Pirsch fire truck from the Itasca Fire Department. Now owned by a priest in Mundelein who bought it in 1990 and restored it that year; it last fought a fire in 1963 at the Itasca Country Club as it pumped water from a creek. This vehicle doesn’t meet current NAFPA standards for front line fire protection. It is restored original vis a vis, there is no enclosure and no heat for the firemen.

Lombard – 8-10-2013 Post

It was a great night in Lombard and parking spaces were hard to find for show cars. The band was a ’70s Disco group called 7Dees. Listen to some of their music here.

LombardCruiseNight-_DSC7810Tom’s immaculate ’61 Pontiac Bonneville convertible had just won ‘Best in Show’ honors and the All-Pontiac Show in St. Charles the previous weekend; I had forgotten to put that show on my calendar.

Carl & Paul's

Carl & Paul’s

I’ve known Paul’s twin Carl (1969 Mustang) for a while and just learned Paul has owned the MG for 35 years. The very good-natured Carl & Paul were singing “One Is The Loneliest Number” along with the band and they can thank me for not having recorded that performance.

The band was Generations, a Sixties experience (click here for some of their music).

Blog update 8-17-2013

It’s been a busy week for me shooting. I haven’t had much time to update my blog. You may know I like to find cars that have been nurtured and cherished by their owners for a long time and here are 7 from the last week.

  1. This 1963 Ford was bought new by Sharon’s parents and given to her as a Sweet Sixteen car.
  2. Ralph bought this Royal Mist Blue 1966 Olds 4-4-2 right after high school and took his wife to the prom in it. Early on he used it as a drag race car and then as a daily driver. It won awards at the World of Wheels in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
  3. Larry bought his blue 1975 Chevrolet Caprice Classic convertible new in 1975; it’s never been wrecked. There are 60k miles but now he only drives it 500 miles a year.
  4. I’ve known Paul’s twin Karl (1969 Mustang) for a while and just learned Paul has owned the MG for 35 years. The very good-natured Carl & Paul were singing “One Is The Loneliest Number” along with the band and they can thank me for not having recorded that performance.
  5. Ron has had the red ’59 Caddy for 25 years. I met him when he had driven his ’59 Bonneville convertible and didn’t realize this Cadillac was his until I recognized him as the driver from a shot at Westchester. He restored it twice
  6. Ed bought this 1947 Chrysler New Yorker 22 years ago.
  7. I met Jim’s (1930 Ford) brother Gary this year and saw his 1955 Ford Customline that he found in a garage near Comiskey Park 17 years ago.

Downers Grove 8-09-2013 Post

Tonight’s featured vehicles were trucks, farm and military vehicles. The entertainment was the After Hours Band; and here is some of his music.

1939 Olds

1939 Olds

This car is a 1939 Oldsmobile and it is very special to Fred, the owner. He saw pictures of a car just like this in his baby book; and was told he’d been born in the back seat of his dad’s Olds before they could get to the hospital. This car is just like that one.

Ford GT slower than my Honda?

Yep, it’s true. “Despite the fact the CP1 (Confirmation Prototype 1) has a fully functional powertrain, the car is limited to a top speed of just 5 mph and is not street legal,” read more.
