Downers Grove 6-07-2013

On Curtis Avenue, Ford A & T Models were featured and Jimmy Boy performed acoustic pop/rock tunes, a few of which can be heard here.

1957 Chevy Bel Aire

1957 Chevy Bel Air

Gordy’s red ‘57 Chevrolet Bel Air ragtop, with a Continental kit caught my eye. It has a 283 with Powerglide and power steering bur regular brakes. This ‘numbers matching’ car has only 100 miles since a frame-off restoration to factory original except Gordy swapped out the 18″ ‘bus wheel’ for a 14″ for driver room. He’d traded in a ’40 Ford. This Bel Aire had been bought from a fellow in Texas who’d gotten it at a Mecum Auction. More photos here. Continue reading →

Westchester Show 5-20-2013

American Austin

American Austin

DJ Tommy ‘spun’ the Oldies music on a sunny but chilly Monday night in Westchester.

Al has ” had my Austin for about 8 years now.  The car is a Business Coupe, often referred to as a three window.  The regular coupes are known as 5-window coupes.  All of these American Austins are only two seaters… well the Business Coupe usually had only one bucket seat for the driver and no passenger seat.  Austins get 45 miles per gallon of gas.  They have a 13 HP motor and weigh about 1300 pounds. The length is just short of 10 feet bumper to bumper.  They were the first true purpose built compact car in America.”

Westchester Cruise Night 6-03-2013 Post

1950 Ford Ragtop

1950 Ford Ragtop

Great car show sponsored by Paul’s Pizza & Hot Dogs Restaurant and surely the clear weather contributed to a ‘packed house’. The Meteors performed so many great oldies; a few of which can be found here. Three special Fords struck me as interesting at the show. Click here to see my teaser photo gallery.

John’s uncle bought this 1950 Ford convertible the Tuesday after Labor Day in 1950; the car having been manufactured on 28 April 1950. This car has only 31,000 original miles and it is original except for the new top, which of course is the original color! John bought it in 1961 and it was garaged on jack stands for about twenty years. The motor is a 100 bhp flathead V-8 with 239 cu in.

Uncle Harry’s 5-19-2013

Flashback 50s DJ Tony

Flashback 50s DJ Tony

Uncle Harry’s season kickoff show was bolstered by over 30 Chevrolet Camaros of the Illinois Camaro Club. Flashback 50s DJ Tony entertained the show with so many oldies I couldn’t jot down all the titles; here is my music section with a few of the tunes (this page would take too long to render if I embedded all the songs). I also saw two other friends from last year at Wood Dale: Dennis and his ’29 A-Model hot rod and Dave who couldn’t bring his 1970 Cutlass 4-4-2 but will show it soon.

Senior Week Show in Forest Park 5-18-13

'61 Lakewood

’61 Chevy Corvair Lakewood

Bentron  Financial sponsored a Car Show at Constitution Court on Madison Street in celebration of Senior Week. Many of the cars were Forest Park regulars. Read on to see my ‘teaser’ gallery (as I find time to edit the rest of my photos) and music I heard at the show.

It’s the first time I’ve seen this local 1961 Chevrolet Corvair Lakewood station wagon.

Berwyn 9-8-12 Photos, ‘Wrap’

Dick Biondi of WLS

Dick Biondi of WLS

I just uploaded my final 2012 season photo gallery to this site!! Just in time for the summer.

My photo gallery for the Berwyn Route 66 Car Show on September 8, 2012 is here; that gallery being the one that  made the season a ‘wrap’.

I shot almost 20,000 photographs for the season. I have 7,419 photos, that met my lofty standards, from 2012 in website galleries including Cruise Nights, Car Shows and two loosely affiliated concerts.

In the fall of 2011, I took my son to Cigars & Stripes in Berwyn for some famous smoked hot wings but Ron told me because of the just ended Route 66 Car Show, he only had one order left, which Paul and I had to share. Undaunted, I came back for this year’s car show and more terrific hot wings (I did have to tone down the “Hottest F#$kin’ Sauce‘). Estimates were as high as 600 cars and the biggest Berwyn Route 66 show ever; I couldn’t see all the cars. Two of the fellows I’ve met at these shows won awards today: Tom took the Raging Ragtop prize for his Coronado Red 61 Pontiac Bonneville and Alan the Mighty Mustang honors for his orange ’69 Shelby Cobra (I didn’t get a picture until hours later when I saw ‘them’ at Hodgkins).
